FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 22, 2024
Location: Houston, Texas
The NBL-United States (NBL-US) is proud to announce Maurice Redmond III as the first President of the NBL-US Players Union. A standout both on and off the court, Redmond’s impressive basketball journey has culminated in this historic appointment. Known for his leadership and commitment, Maurice will now represent the voices and rights of all NBL-US players, helping guide the league through its next phase of growth and development.
Maurice Redmond III hails from Channelview, Texas, where he played his high school basketball at Channelview High School. He then went on to have a stellar collegiate career at Wayland Baptist University. Upon graduation, Redmond joined his hometown team, East Houston United, and led them to four NBL-US championships. Most recently, in the 2024 season, Redmond secured his fifth championship with the HBCU Movement, winning the prestigious Gerone “Bull” Woods Finals MVP Award.
Redmond’s individual accolades are as remarkable as his team success. He was named the NBL-US MVP in 2022 and earned Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2020. As he prepares for his final season in the NBL-US in 2025 with the expansion team, the Gueydan Flying Ducks, Redmond will now take on the added responsibility of serving as the first-ever President of the Players Union.
