Houston, Texas

The National Basketball League-United States (NBL-US) witnessed one of the most dramatic and impactful trades in league history following Week 1 of the 2026 Season.

In a multi-team blockbuster deal involving the East Houston United, HBCU Movement, and Lake Houston Flight, the following moves have been finalized:

  • Cameron Hunter → East Houston United
  • Kevin Lewis Jr. → HBCU Movement
  • Trexton Marshall → Lake Houston Flight

This trade comes after devastating news for East Houston United, as standout guard Asante Belton suffered a torn meniscus after averaging an explosive 26.5 points per game in his first two contests of the 2026 campaign.

With the injury leaving a major void in the backcourt, East Houston United moved quickly to secure an established floor general in Cameron Hunter.

EAST HOUSTON UNITED RESPONDS TO ADVERSITY

After beginning the season with championship expectations, East Houston United was forced to pivot strategically.

Head Coach Joel Stevenson addressed the decision:

“This was one of the hardest basketball decisions I’ve had to make. Kevin Lewis Jr. is a tremendous competitor and a true professional. We hated to lose him. But with the injury to Asante Belton and the emergence of Donald Richardson, we had to evaluate what our team needed most.

We needed an established, proven point guard who could control the pace, organize the offense, and stabilize us immediately. Cameron Hunter gives us that. Kevin meant a lot to our locker room, and we wish him nothing but success.”

The move signals a shift in East Houston United’s offensive structure as they prioritize backcourt leadership and ball distribution heading into a pivotal Week 2 matchup.

SECONDARY MOVE: LAKE HOUSTON FLIGHT BETS ON UPSIDE

In a secondary transaction tied to the deal, Lake Houston Flight acquired the rights to Trexton Marshall, a highly touted 6’5 wing with tremendous athletic upside, while moving Kevin Lewis Jr. to HBCU Movement.

Head Coach Roosevelt Countee Jr. of Lake Houston Flight explained:

“Kevin Lewis Jr. is a champion and a proven winner. But when you evaluate roster construction long term, sometimes you have to make bold moves. Trexton Marshall at 6’5 brings versatility, length, and tremendous upside. We believe his ceiling is extremely high.

This was about positioning our program not just for today, but for sustained success.”

Marshall, who was originally preparing to make his debut this weekend with HBCU Movement, will now suit up for Lake Houston Flight as they continue building toward a deep playoff run.

A CHAMPION RETURNS HOME

For HBCU Movement, this trade marks the return of a familiar name — a player who was instrumental in delivering the organization’s 2024 Championship in its inaugural season.

Head Coach Kevin Williams Sr. shared the intensity behind finalizing the deal:

“I didn’t sleep much last night. We were on calls late working through the parameters, making sure every detail aligned. Kevin Lewis Jr. is family to us. He helped us win our first championship in 2024.

When you have an opportunity to bring back someone who understands your system, your culture, and your championship DNA — you do it. I’m excited. He’s back where he belongs.”

KEVIN LEWIS JR. SPEAKS

Now reunited with a coach he has won two championships with, Kevin Lewis Jr. expressed both gratitude and clarity about the move:

“I’m happy to be in a situation I’m more comfortable in. Coach Kevin Williams understands how to utilize my skill set. We’ve won championships together, and there’s a level of trust there.

I have no ill will toward East Houston United. They’re a great organization. I just felt like it wasn’t the best fit for me. I wish them nothing but success moving forward. But I’m excited to be back with HBCU Movement and ready to compete.”

SATURDAY SHOWDOWN: THE BIGGEST GAME IN NBL-US HISTORY

The timing of the trade adds even more intensity to what is already being labeled the biggest game in NBL-US history.

On Saturday, March 7, 2026, HBCU Movement will face East Houston United in a high-stakes showdown just days after the blockbuster deal.

All three traded players — Cameron Hunter, Trexton Marshall, and Kevin Lewis Jr. — are expected to suit up for their new teams.

The storyline could not be more compelling:

  • A former champion returns home.
  • A team retools after a major injury.
  • A rising prospect debuts under new leadership.
  • Former teammates meet immediately in competition.

The atmosphere is expected to be electric as Houston basketball fans witness what could become a defining moment in NBL-US history.
