Macon Makes History with First Professional Development Basketball Teams

The National Basketball League – United States (NBL-US) proudly announces the official addition of the Macon Momentum (men’s Division 1 program) and the Lady Momentum (women’s Division 1 program). This historic expansion brings the first-ever professional development basketball teams to Macon, Georgia, further solidifying the NBL-US’s & WNBL-US reputation as one of the fastest-growing platforms for aspiring athletes in America.

Commissioner’s Statement

NBL-US Commissioner Lillian Countee celebrated the milestone:

“We are beyond excited to welcome the Macon Momentum and Lady Momentum into the NBL-US family. This is a groundbreaking moment not only for the league but for the city of Macon, which now has its first professional development basketball teams.

The name ‘Momentum’ reflects exactly what we expect from these programs: constant growth, relentless energy, and the drive to keep pushing forward. Our expectations are high—we know the Momentum will inspire athletes, energize the city, and create a model for what community-based professional basketball should look like. We are honored to bring the NBL-US to Macon and can’t wait to see the impact these teams will make.”


What’s Next for the Macon Momentum

The launch of the Momentum franchises will unfold in several phases, with more information coming soon:

  • Coaching & Staff Announcements – Official appointments of head coaches and key front office staff.
  • Player Tryouts – Open opportunities for athletes from Macon and surrounding areas to compete for roster spots.
