The Islanders will compete in the South Division of the NBL-US and are expected to bring a strong competitive presence and a bold new identity to the league. With a commitment to opportunity, community development, and athletic excellence, the Galveston Islanders are poised to become a powerful symbol of progress along the Gulf Coast.

HISTORIC FIRST FOR GALVESTON

For decades, Galveston has been known for its coastal charm, vibrant tourism, and historic landmarks. Now, the city adds professional basketball to that legacy. The Galveston Islanders become the first professional basketball franchise ever established in the city, offering local athletes ages 17 and up the opportunity to compete at a national level without leaving their community.

Tryouts for the team will begin in Fall 2025, with details to be announced in the coming weeks.

STATEMENT FROM COMMISSIONER LILLIAN COUNTEE

“This is a monumental moment for the NBL-US and the city of Galveston. We’ve had our eye on the Gulf Coast for years, and we knew Galveston would be a perfect fit: a proud, passionate city with a growing sports culture. The Islanders franchise brings new energy to the league, and I expect them to represent the values of the NBL-US with pride — hard work, community, and opportunity. I’m thrilled to welcome Galveston into our league family.”

— Lillian Countee, Commissioner, National Basketball League–United States

THE ISLANDERS’ PURPOSE AND PROMISE

The Galveston Islanders are built on three core pillars:

1. PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

Providing elite training and national exposure to unseen and unsigned talent, especially those looking to transition to college programs or international professional careers.

2. COMMUNITY IMPACT

Hosting free basketball camps, school outreach programs, and youth mentorship initiatives throughout Galveston and the surrounding Gulf Coast area.

3. LOCAL ECONOMIC GROWTH

Creating jobs through event operations, media, concessions, and game-day staffing — while attracting local sponsors and business partnerships.
