JAMIR MASON CARRIES DAWGS PAST VENOM IMPROVE TO 3-1

In a compelling matchup, the Huntsville Dawgs surged past the Cypress Venom with a decisive 97-77 victory. The Dawgs displayed formidable offensive efficiency, shooting an impressive 52.2% from the field, while the Venom struggled, managing just 34.9% on their attempts.

Jamir Mason led the charge for Huntsville with a standout performance, contributing 27 points, 9 rebounds, and a notable 10 assists, marking a well-rounded double-double. His accuracy was evident, as he hit 9 of 21 field goals, made 8 of 10 from the charity stripe, and showed defensive prowess with 2 blocks. Joseph Gilliam provided a significant impact from beyond the arc, sinking 7 of 14 attempts to tally 24 points. His long-range shooting spread the floor and created scoring opportunities for his teammates.

Kevin Wesley Jr. provided a defensive stronghold for the Dawgs, pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds, leading to his own double-double performance with 12 points. Deaundre Jones added value with his 15 points and consistent play across 28 minutes, although his 5 turnovers were a minor blemish in an otherwise solid outing.

For Cypress, the scoring was led by Tre Landry, who contributed 18 points but struggled with efficiency, connecting on only 6 of 16 field goals. Isaac Bunn bolstered the Venom’s efforts with 14 points and added 3 assists, though his overall impact was mitigated by Huntsville’s tight defensive setup.

Bobby Hall and Davion Smith Sr. were among the top performers for the Venom, each contributing robust rebound numbers, adding 7 and 9 total rebounds respectively. Crosby Jackson matched Smith with 9 boards, reinforcing the Venom’s presence on the glass, especially on the offensive end where they tallied an impressive 15 offensive rebounds.

Defensively, the Venom were aggressive, collecting 11 steals. However, they were unable to parlay these efforts into sufficient scoring opportunities, as frequent turnovers and lack of efficiency undercut their capability to close the gap. Conversely, Huntsville’s defense limited the Venom to just 29 made field goals out of 83 attempts and recorded 7 steals to complement their defense.

Ultimately, the game was characterized by the Dawgs’ superior shooting and playmaking abilities, resulting in 18 team assists which facilitated their players’ freedom to make impactful plays. Cypress’s inability to capitalize on second-chance opportunities, despite their 15 offensive rebounds, was evident throughout.

This game underlined Huntsville’s potential with their balanced attack and defensive tenacity, while Cypress showed sparks of potential especially in rebounding and steals but will look to improve their shooting accuracy in future games.
