WOODLANDS, TEXAS – December 5th, 2023 – The Woodlands Warhawks proudly announce their enthusiastic return to the National Basketball League-United States (NBL-US) for their second season under the leadership of General Manager Chris Williams and Head Coach Desmond Davis. After a debut season as an expansion team, the Warhawks are poised to make a formidable comeback, learn from their experiences, and compete at the highest level in the upcoming 2024 season.
In their inaugural season, the Warhawks, though facing challenges, discovered the immense talent within the NBL-US. Despite finishing 0-10, the team showcased bright spots that fueled optimism for the future. Center Gabriel Drayton, hailing from Arkansas Baptist University, emerged as a standout player, earning a spot on the All NBL-First Team. Drayton led the league in rebounds with an impressive 17.7 per game, complemented by 16.8 points and 3.8 assists per game.
The Warhawks also celebrated the remarkable performance of rookie Chris Williams Jr., a high school freshman who displayed exceptional skills, notably in a standout game against the four-time champion East Houston United, where he scored 17 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, and delivered 3 assists.
Looking ahead to the current season, General Manager Chris Williams Sr. expressed confidence and high expectations for the Woodlands Warhawks. In a statement, he said, “Good afternoon NBL-US, Woodlands Warhawks, and Warhawk fans! We are getting everything situated with our organization to be able to put a team on the court that competes every minute of every single game with the ultimate goal of winning the championship! We will hold each other accountable from executives to players to ensure our goals are exceeded this season! The Warhawks plan to retain their core group of players, including Joseph Ford, Rodman Allen, Gabe Drayton, Darius Peters, Jarred Nash, Chris Williams Jr., JA’Ante Ragston and Kemarcus Ayers. With the #1 pick in the upcoming draft on January 27th, 2024, the team aims to further strengthen its roster and address specific needs for the upcoming season.
